What is Laser Pigmentation Removal?

Laser Pigmentation Removal is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses targeted laser light to break down excess melanin in the skin. This process gradually fades dark spots, sun damage, and discolouration, revealing a more even and luminous skin tone.

What Are Pigmentation Spots?

You may notice pigment patches on your face, neck, décolletage, shoulders, or hands and think they simply need to be removed — mechanically exfoliated or chemically lightened. Such methods can bring temporary results, but hyperpigmentation often returns.

In reality, melasma is a disorder of the mechanisms responsible for the skin’s consistent pigmentation — the process that gives it colour. Most commonly in women, this imbalance leads to localised overproduction of pigment, resulting in visible discolouration.

The exact cause of the condition is still not fully understood. While pigment spots appear primarily under the influence of UV radiation, the development of melasma is also affected by genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, and other internal factors.

In pigmentation treatments using A.L.T. (Accumulative Light Pulse) technology, we apply 530 nm or 590 nm filters, depending on the skin type. The treatment works on both superficial epidermal pigmentation and deeper dermal discolouration.

These filter combinations allow us to target specific chromophores (melanin or haemoglobin) to treat a variety of pigmentation disorders with precision.

Unlike traditional lasers, the Leonardo A.L.T. Hyper Pulse uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths, enabling it to act on multiple skin layers simultaneously — targeting pigmentation in both the epidermis and the dermis.

The unique accumulation of pulses enhances the penetration of thermal energy, significantly improving the effectiveness of the procedure while reducing the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation (PIH).

The flashes of light precisely target pigment gathered within melanocytes — the pigment-producing skin cells. The energy fragments these overactive melanocytes, allowing them to be naturally removed through keratinisation, the skin’s natural renewal process.

This results in an overall brightening of the skin tone and a visible reduction in pigmentation. Additionally, the treatment stimulates the regeneration of collagen fibres in the dermis, contributing to smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
